1 Day / Saturday, 1:30-3:30pm

With so many issues shaking our world today, more and more people are expressing their support of causes through marches and public demonstrations. Protest signs are the visual mechanism that most choose to relay their message. This summer, led by visiting artist and professional sign painter, Alyssabeth Archambault, GoggleWorks offers the opportunity, resources, and support to let your voice be heard in this special lecture and workshop.

The day will begin with a 45-minute lecture and slideshow on the history and nature of the protest sign, followed by professional sign painter tips on how to make your sign stand out. Topics covered will include how to share your message effectively, methods and materials for construction and display, and design strategies, like graphics vs. no graphics. The lecture will conclude with a group critique of example signs.

There is no wrong way to make a protest sign, but we want yours to stand out! This workshop is open to all, regardless of artistic talent or political views. Bring your ideas, short slogans, words and/or thumbnail sketches. No one will be turned away, but we do want to make this experience a very positive, empowering, and creative one for all attendees (including children), so please choose your words and images carefully.

Don't have a protest to attend, but still want to participate? Make one for your lawn, donate it to a cause, or contribute it to an upcoming event. If you choose to donate your sign, we will pass it along to people who will put it to good use.
